Artist Statement
I would describe my work as an exploration and celebration of the world we live in. Drawing inspiration from nature, in how we relate to others and the way the world can be viewed in different ways. There is so much beauty in the world and dance is the form in which I choose to explore and communicate that. It is so important that people keep creating, even if it has been done before, because it hasn’t been done in their voice.
Throughout history we see this growth and how people gain inspiration from others, to create something new. If nothing else I want my work to be seen in the same way, something that is unique to my perspective. Something that others can understand but still learn from. Whether it is an idea that they appreciate, a pattern, or to teach them something that they don’t like as much. This creation process is to help me learn and help others learn as well. My hope is that they gain some kind of insight into themselves, the world or even into my life.
I hope to create things that emulate the beauty of life, the dualities and opposition. Sharing just a little bit of how I view the world, that despite the hardships and darkness that there is light and hope in the world. Dance is an outlet to share what I have inside me, to speak about hard things in a way that doesn’t require a response. It gives people and myself the space to think for themselves and decide what they believe in and who they want to be.
Teaching Philosophy
Mission Statement: Finding joy in dance at any age.
Philosophy: Movement is a natural part of our lives; it drives us and connects us. Dance can create a sense of accomplishment in movement. It hones in on our natural inclination and elevates it. We strive to create an environment where, as you learn, you feel comfortable doing so and find joy in the process. It doesn’t matter when or where you start, it matters that you did. We hope to guide and nurture your progression and love for this art form.
